How do we Balance the Promises of the Data Revolution versus the Reality on the Ground?

The seminar will focus on the following topics and questions:

  •  Bringing in the new, while not forgetting about the old: SDG implementation torn between the promises of the data revolution and the realties on the ground
  • What needs to happen to ensure that countries with limited capacity can also benefit from the data revolution?
  • How can we complement traditional data sources (censuses and surveys) with non-traditional, new data sources to obtain accurate and timely information for decision-making processes?
  • In what ways can we foster knowledge sharing both among early adopters of new technologies and would-be adopters - at the global, regional and country level?
  • How can we adopt and foster public private partnerships as a strategy for knowledge transfer and for harnessing the potential of the data revolution; how can we promote sustainable collaborations for increased capacity development?
