"Social protection for inclusive development - a new perspective in EU co-operation with Africa"

The European Report on Development 2010 (http://erd.eui.eu/) concludes that the time is ripe for a new Africa-EU social protection agenda. There is a growing consensus on the benefits of social protection, and the post-crises environment, as well as the likely risks linked to climate change, calls for a renewed and enhanced partnership. According to the Report, social protection programmes can under the right circumstances have a positive impact on inclusive growth and poverty reduction, reaching large parts of the population, and eliciting broad political support.
The European Report on Development (ERD) 2010 is the second ERD Report. The purpose with the annual ERD Reports is to help the EU refine its vision of development and enrich its policies on the basis of research, knowledge, innovation, and the building of common ground between the European research community, policymakers, and a broad public. The initiative is financed by the European Commission together with seven EU Member States, including Finland. The Reports are written by independent research teams and the views expressed in the Reports are the views of the authors.

Tilaisuudessa esitellään kirjaa, sen tuloksia, ja samalla paikallisten vaikutusmahdollisuuksia tilanteeseen esimerkiksi Arctic Biodiversity Assessment-luonnon monimuotoisuustyökalun avulla. Pääpainopiste on kuitenkin siinä, että paikalliset vuotsolaiset saavat käyttää puheenvuoroja kirjaan ja sen teemoihin liittyen. Alustajina ovat ainakin yhteiskuntatieteiden tohtori Tero Mustonen, saamelaiskäräjien pitkäaikainen puheenjohtaja Pekka Aikio ja muut kirjassa mukana olleet tahot. Tilaisuudessa on myös teosta saatavilla.
